Sony Exec Wants More Thrilling Episodic Content [PS3]

Posted by Brian Ashcraft on Wednesday January 7, 2009 1 p.m.

Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Europe (SCEWSE?) exec Michael Denny is not thrilled with episodic content. He wants it to be more exciting, you know, more cliffhangery.

For me, true episodic gaming needs to be more than just selling a traditional game split into chunks. It needs to be games that are specifically designed from the outset to be very story driven, to be very cliffhanger-orientated. Almost to follow some ...

In the US, you have to pay for a demo of Killzone 2. Crazy days. In Europe, however, it's the demo will be free. Which is good news for Americans!

Yes, Americans. It's not good news for Europeans, because the second you start treating the fact a demo is free as "good news", you're fucked. So...carry on, it's business as usual

No, it's good ...

Yes. It's another fancy PlayStation 3 for the Japanese market. Not content with lording it over us with their white and silver consoles, Japan will now also be getting this dragon-emblazoned Yakuza machine.

Ryu Ga Gotuku fans will remember this was actually announced last year, but without any pictures. Now, we've got pictures.

For the forgetful, it's a white, limited edition 80GB machine that's to be ...

Sony Looking Forward To PS3 Exclusives In 2009, PSP Not So Much [Playstation Family]

Posted by Michael McWhertor on Tuesday January 6, 2009 1:20 a.m.

What are Sony's top brass looking forward to from the PlayStation family in 2009? Console exclusives, naturally. And "making money." While the PS3 gets 'em all hot and bothered, the PSP is, at best, remembered.

Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios, teases "new titles and innovations that will connect and expand the PlayStation experiences" on the PSP. But that's about all the love the ...

Posted by MattG on Monday January 5, 2009 11:30 p.m.

Nintendo Wii web browser There's a report going around that seems surprised that there are people out there who use the web browsers available for the Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 3.  There aren't many of those people, mind you, but they are out there.  Apparently 0.04% of web traffic uses the PS3 browser, while only 0.01% of browser use ties to the Wii.  Kombo has the story, but it ...

Mini-Review: Mirror's Edge

Posted by MattG on Monday January 5, 2009 7 p.m.

Faith I love when there are abundant blue skies in video games, so it's easy to see why I was eager to tear into Mirror's Edge from Electronic Arts for the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and PC which casts players in the role of Faith, an athletic woman living in a very clean and very bright city sometime in the not too distant future.  There's a ...

Posted by Luke Plunkett on Monday January 5, 2009 12:30 p.m.

Times are tough all over right now, but times are especially tough at Sony. They've only just announced plans to axe thousands of employees, and already The Times reckon things are about to get worse.

While Sony are all "no we're not" on the speculation/leak, The Times insist that next month (following the Consumer Electronics Show), Sony will not only announce the closure of several factories in ...

PS3/X360 Sonic Unleashed Frustrates In New Ways

Posted by MattG on Monday January 5, 2009 1:12 a.m.

Sonic Unleashed After reviewing the Nintendo Wii version of Sonic Unleashed and coming away disappointed in the emphasis on slow nighttime werehog brawling levels over speedy daytime joy material, I decided to try the Sony PlayStation 3 version of the game which supposedly includes more day levels and therefore more fun.  I am pleased to say that this is true.  There are more day levels in the powerhouse console versions of the ...
